The Difference Between Email and Messenger
You probably use email and Messenger, but do you have a good sense of how they're different? Do you know why Facebook Messenger is a game-changer for communicating with your customers? Understanding both modes of communication lets you make ToneDen's Messenger integrations work for you. Let's take a look.
Messenger is Facebook's text messaging app. As an advertiser, you can only reach people who've either messaged your Facebook page or clicked on the "Subscribe to Messenger" button for your page.
This means that you can't just send a message to everyone who's liked your page. You also can't message people who subscribed to your page before you started using ToneDen's Messenger integrations. This is a limitation imposed by Facebook.
Another important thing to know is that you can't share fans between pages automatically. This is an obvious difference between Messenger and email. With email, once you have someone's address you can import it into different lists anywhere.
With Messenger, a fan opts in to receive messages from one page at a time. If you have two pages you want to message a person from, you'll need to get the fan to subscribe to both pages; then, they'll receive messages from each page independently. In other words, you can't "export" that fan from one page and "import" them into another.
Reach Your Fans with Messenger
If you'd like to start messaging your fans through ToneDen, start gathering subscribers to those pages. Setting up a social unlock or a contest using the "Subscribe to Facebook Messenger" action lets you easily do that.
Take those steps and you'll start collecting page subscribers. You can track the growth of your page subscribers by visiting your ToneDen account and selecting your page from the "Subscribed To Messages From Facebook Page" dropdown in the segmentation menu on the left.
After you've gathered subscribers, message them by going to www.toneden.io/new/message and selecting the "Messenger" channel in Step 2.
